Marie Harte Interview and Giveaway

Hi Marie and welcome to Royal Reviews

1—Tell us something about yourself, so that we can get to know you a bit better

Marie Harte: I’m a coffee addict and lover of romance. I pretty much read every genre in romantic fiction. I’m the mother of two energetic boys and write to put food—a lot of food (growing boys)—on the table. I currently reside in Central Oregon, a hop skip and a jump from the mountains. Life is good!

2—Your contemporary romance novel, The Troublemaker Next Door, is out now—congrats! Could you tell us about it?

Marie Harte: Thank you. I was going to write something off the cuff, but the blurb tells the story much better—When Flynn McCauley meets Maddie Gardner, sparks fly. She hates men. He’s not into relationships. She lost her job. He fixed her sink—but that’s not all he wants to fix. When a ride home turns into a lot more, Maddie and Flynn decide to keep things strictly casual. Strictly sexual. They won’t date. And they end up not dating…a lot. But soon Flynn wants more from the wary redhead. If he can just keep her distracted long enough to burrow under her skin, Flynn might convince Maddie they have a shot at real happiness. That’s if Maddie can overcome her past to take a chance on the future.

3—The Troublemaker Next Door is the first book in your McCauley Brothers Series. Could you introduce us to the McCauley Brothers?

Marie Harte: I’d love to! Flynn McCauley is a charmer, handsome, hard-working, and wow, sexy. He loves women but he’s not a player. Though he doesn’t think he’s looking for forever, deep down he wants a lasting relationship, the kind his parents have.

Brody Singer is the unofficially adopted McCauley. He and Flynn are business partners and best friends. He’s lived with the McCauleys most of his life. The golden McCauley, Brody is a god among men—when it comes to dating. The resident conman has a scarred past and though he’d never admit it, he doesn’t think he’s worth loving.

Cameron McCauley is a square peg trying to fit in a round hole. A financial genius who grew up in a blue collar family, he’s the youngest of his brothers. He’s the sensitive one in the bunch, smart and handsome. But he and his father don’t seem to get along all that well, and that lack of acceptance bothers him. Cam finds intelligence and female strength sexy, and he’s got a thing for Vanessa—big-time.

Mike McCauley, father to six-year-old Colin and the oldest of the brothers, has loved and lost and isn’t eager to do it again. He works with his father at their construction company, and he’s tall and muscular from working with his hands all day. Mike’s an all-around good guy. People love him, the ladies especially. But Mike isn’t as nice as most people think. It takes a special woman to break him out of his shell. Of all the McCauleys, surprisingly, Mike is the one who’s most vulnerable.

4—The women in your novel are strong, independent, and modern. Are they based off of women you know?

Marie Harte: The women are a conglomeration of many women I’ve known, both good and bad. I don’t like stupidity in any form, and I like my heroines to be more than smart, but have common sense. Vulnerability and self-esteem issues can pay havoc with good judgment, but intelligence is a key factor in my heroines. They’ve gotta have it. (And intelligence comes in many forms—it’s not just about being book-smart.) J

5—Do you do anything special to get into the right frame of mind for writing?

Marie Harte: Put my coffee cup on its little burner, then put my fingers to the keyboard. That’s it!

6—What can readers expect next?

Marie Harte: More McCauleys! From June through November, the McCauleys are arriving. The next books come in August, October and November. I also have the final book in my Wicked Warrens series releasing in July, as well as the final books in my Good to Go, military trilogy, releasing in June and July. It’s a busy, busy year.

7—What inspired you to become an author?

Marie Harte: There’s nothing I’d rather do than write. I’ve always been an avid reader—so I’d have to say books inspired me to write. As a child, for fun I’d make up stories. First I’d tell them to friends, then I’d write them down on index cards and notebook paper. Once the computer arrived, my fate seemed a done deal. I worked hard at other jobs to support myself while always dreaming I’d one day get to write fulltime. Now I’m living the dream.

8—Do you have any words of wisdom for aspiring authors?

Marie Harte: Marie Harte: Yes, to write first for yourself, then for your audience. If your work can’t move you, it won’t move readers. And no matter what anyone else says, believe in yourself. There are plenty of people who’ll tell you no. It only takes one to say yes. Persistence pays off in this field.

Thanks for having me, Royal Reviews!
