Emily Greenwood Interview and Giveaway

Hi Emily, welcome to Royal Reviews! Let’s grab a cuppa tea and settle in for a wee chat!

Emily Greenwood: Hello, and thank you very much for having me here today to celebrate the release of MISCHIEF BY MOONLIGHT!

1—Tell us something about yourself, so that we can get to know you a bit better…

Emily Greenwood: I’m a middle-aged woman who sits around in her pajamas all day, eating peanuts and dreaming about people who never existed in a time she never lived in—what more do you need to know, LOL? I’m happily married with two teenage daughters who keep me pretty busy, and I like to cook, do yoga, and read other people’s books.

2—Your historical romance novel, Mischief by Moonlight, is out now—congrats! Could you tell us about it?

Emily Greenwood: Thanks J MISCHIEF BY MOONLIGHT is the last novel in my Regency Mischief series. Each of the stories has a little element of mischief, and in this story, the mischief starts with a love potion.

Using a love potion is the idea of my heroine, Josie—she’s engaged to a dashing army captain, but he’s been away for the last year, and so she’s had lots of time to worry that her older sister will become an unhappy spinster. Josie thinks her handsome, reserved friend Colin, the Earl of Ivorwood, would make the perfect husband for her sister, and a gypsy’s love potion gives her the chance to matchmake. But things don’t work out at all as expected, because Colin’s already secretly smitten with Josie, and the wild results of the potion show Josie that she might like Colin as more than a friend, too.

3—Could you introduce readers to Colin & Josie?

Emily Greenwood: Colin Pearce, the Earl of Ivorwood, is a reserved man. He’s not shy—he’s quite capable of being very entertaining—but as Josie tells him with exasperated affection, he just doesn’t really “need” people. In other words, he’s an introvert J An amateur historian, he spends a lot of time writing and doing research. He’s also quite handsome—tall, with black hair and a strong beak of a nose.

Miss Josie Cardworthy is prone to impulsive, sometimes even reckless, actions. She’s tremendously good-hearted, and the best friend her difficult older sister could ask for. But she’s getting worried about having engaged herself to the army captain—they only knew each other for six weeks before he had to go back to war, and he’s been gone over a year now… was it really love between them after all? Josie is pretty, with brown hair and blue eyes that sparkle with mischief.

4— How do you find the perfect blend of history and romance?

Emily Greenwood: My favorite parts in any romance are the interactions between the hero and heroine, so their relationship is always at the front of my mind when writing. Of course, part of the fun with historicals is all the rules governing behavior –and breaking them. And I love historical details, but my goal is to have them exist as a background that enhances the story.

5—Do you do anything special to get into the right frame of mind for writing?

Emily Greenwood: I like for everyone to leave the house J I do prefer quiet, but if I get stuck, I put on a soundtrack from a historical movie.

6—What can readers expect next?

Emily Greenwood: My next book is the first in a two-book Regency series. It’s about a tomboyish heroine who’s forced into hiding because some naked pictures of her made without her knowledge are being circulated. The place she ends up hiding is the home of an embittered viscount…he’s about to get his world shaken up.

7—What inspired you to become an author?

Emily Greenwood: Reading romance novels. There were some that I just loved, and I wished I could write books like those. I hope readers enjoy my books even half as much as I’ve enjoyed some of my favorite romances.

8—Do you have any words of wisdom for aspiring authors?

Emily Greenwood: Keep writing. Find a way of writing that works for you. If you’re like me, that will mean making a disgusting mess of a draft and throwing a lot away. Persevere! Except for those rare, annoying outliers who hit it out of the park on their first try, most of the writers I know have plugged steadily away at their writing over several years, constantly improving their skills by sharing their work with other writers and studying the craft.

Once again, congrats on the release of Mischief by Moonlight. Thanks for stopping by Royal Reviews and chatting with us!

With the night so full of romance…
Colin Pearce, the Earl of Ivorwood, never dreamed he’d desire another man’s fiancée, but when his best friend goes off to war and asks Colin to look after the bewitching Josie Cardworthy, he falls under her sparkling spell.
Who can resist mischief?
Josie can’t wait for the return of her long-absent fiancé. If only her beloved sister might find someone, too…someone like the handsome, reserved Colin. A gypsy’s love potion gives Josie the chance to matchmake, but the wild results reveal her own growing passion for the earl. And though fate offers them a chance, a steely honor may force him to reject what her reckless heart is offering…
