This was my favourite Sookie novel! It was so action packed, it was 'almost' difficult to keep up. It's also getting very difficult to review them without giving away spoilers. This was also the first book that listening to rather than reading was a drawback. You can't speed read an audio book, you just have to keep listening, it was a little frustrating.
In this book I honestly didn't know which characters, apart from Sookie, would still be alive at the end. The story takes you deep into the heart of Vampire politics and reveals how vastly different they are from humans. Sookie is forced into a situation where she has to drink some of Eric's blood and I don't know if it causes it, but her 'human' morals start to decline slightly or maybe she is just loosing her black and white view of the world and discovering all the shades of grey. She seems to just accept vampire justice and/or politics regardless of what humans are killed as a result. She also seems to have grown up too which probably explains her change in attitude.
The main storyline of this book is the Vampire summit that Sookie was required to attend with the Queen of New Orleans, Sophie Anne and the trial for the death of her husband. By the end of the book Sookie is much wiser about the ways in which she is used by the Vamps.
Sookie's relationship with Quinn (were tiger) continues at a rather slow pace but more of Quinn's background is revealed and it makes him even more perfect for Sookie. I am torn between wanting Sookie to end up with Quinn, Bill or maybe even Sam. I know that most people hated Bill, but I still have a soft spot for him even though I don't really want to see her end up with a Vamp.
My only problem now is that I only have one more book to read and then I have to wait for the next one to be published. I just wish I knew how many books Charlaine Harris was intending to write. I'm getting to the stage where I do want a resolution, I want her to have her happy ending!
