Shifters Galore! Let the Fun Begin! By Terry Spear (Guest Post and Giveaway

Due to an unforeseen event, the guest post that the lovely and talented Terry Spear sent us introducing readers to her shifters wasn’t posted during our shifter week. I would like to thank Terry Spear for stopping by as well as for her patience.  In my shifter worlds, I have wolves. Or jaguars. Or cougars. But they’re not all in the same stories. They don’t believe the other exists. Just like humans don’t believe that they exist. And yet, there is some evidence that…nah.

But how could they not exist in our world? For centuries all over the world, tales of shifters have been shared. Of wolves and jaguar shifting gods. Of the Trickster, Coyote. Of other Native American legends of the skinwalkers, some even saying that they include the bear or cougar.

How could so many be wrong all across the world?

The shifters in my world were born that way, or if bitten, they could become one. The shifters in human form have their wild animal personality, enhanced vision and hearing and sense of smell. But in their wilder forms, they still have their human thought processes. So they are one with themselves in either form. It’s not like taking off a fur skin and now they are strictly human, or adding their fur coat, and now they are all wild beast.

I had an editor say that my characters couldn’t do some of the things they did, yet they’ve done so in the last seventeen books because she wasn’t seeing through THEIR eyes.

The shifters are who they are because of their special abilities. We can’t think of them as strictly human. Because they’re not. They see things differently than we do. They live their lives differently than we do. When we go to the woods, we are visitors there. We soak up the smells, sights, and sounds like they do, but we are not one with the woods. We don’t live there except for a short while.

The shifters sense more. They smell, see, and hear more. This is their native environment. They are one with the other animals that are there. When they are in amongst humans, they have those more enhanced senses and can “see” humans more easily than we can—smell our fear, excitement, intrigue.

They mingle and mix with us and we don’t even know it. They love to be with their kind though at times so they can be fully who they are without having to hide their shifter halves. They don’t always fit in with the way strictly humans are, because…they’re not strictly humans.

And that’s what I love about them. They can be who they are.

They are protective and loving, and hot and sexy. They are unique and fun-loving. They don’t take themselves too seriously, unless the situation warrants it.

And most of all, they are loyal and all yours for the taking.

So now, which would you prefer and why? Jaguars of the jaguar policing forces? SEAL wolves, Highland Wolves, Silver Brother Wolves, Arctic Wolves, Leidolf’s Red Wolf Pack? Devlyn and Bella’s Pack? Or maybe one of those sexy cougars from Yuma Town, Colorado?

The choice is all yours. If you choose several, it’s okay to be fickle, I often am, just make sure when you plan to spend some time with them, you don’t get your dates mixed up. That could be seriously AWKWARD.
