For a fan of the Arthurian legends it is a delight to find yet another perspective of this much told tale. I think Rosalind Miles showed a stroke of genius telling this epic almost entirely from Guenevere's point of view. Guenevere's early life, Guenevere and Arthur's marriage, the growth of their kingdom, the conflict with the Christians and Guenevere's love affair with Lancelot. Guenevere is portrayed as a much stronger, more likeable character, while Morgaine La Fey and Merlin are at their most malevolent in this novel.The first in a trilogy that brings to life the magical world of Camelot and Guenevere's life, loves and tragedies. If you don't mind a well known legend being told from a different perspective then you will enjoy this one but if you want a portrayal that remains loyal to the mainstream telling then Rosalind Miles's Guenevere is probably not for you.
