Samantha Grace Interview & Giveaway

I would like to welcome Samantha Grace To Royal Reviews!

Tell us something about yourself, so that we can get to know you a bit better…

I’ve been married for 16 years to a man I met on my first job out of grad school. I listened to that little voice telling me to pack up and move to a very small town in the Ozarks where I didn’t know anyone, and there was the man of my dreams. We have two kids, a sweet calico cat, and a 70-pound dog that thinks she’s a cat. I’ve been working as a social worker for many years, and started out in mental health, but now I work in hospice. Writing books was another result of listening to that bossy little voice in my head, and I couldn’t be happier. Writing brings laughter and brightness to my life, while my hospice work helps me keep things in perspective. And both jobs bring wonderful people into my life.

Your historical romance, Miss Lavigne’s Little White Lie, is out now—congrats! Could you tell us about it?

Thank you! Here’s a basic summary:

A SCOUNDREL DRIVES A HARD BARGAIN…

Spirited and determined to protect her young brother at any cost, Lisette Lavigne is desperate to flee New Orleans. There’s only one ship sailing to England, though, and the rakish Captain Daniel Hillary will only allow Lisette’s family aboard for a steep price…

BUT A LADY ALWAYS GETS THE UPPER HAND…

Daniel prides himself on running a tight ship, and he knows a lady will be nothing but trouble on a long voyage. Yet he can’t help but break his own ironclad rules when Lisette persuades him that being gentlemanly just this once is his wisest course of action…

But the story is ultimately about family loyalty, betrayal, healing, forgiveness, and of course, discovering true love.

This is the third installment of your Beau Monde Bachelor Series. Have you had a favorite hero/heroine or one that was easier to write?

It seems like every time I finish writing a new book I think that hero is my favorite. I guess I love them all, but Daniel Hillary was definitely fun and easy to write. He has no filters, so he says exactly what’s on his mind. He’s also a bit of a rebel who thumbs his nose at society. It was very freeing to let him loose.

Then there was Lisette Lavigne. I loved having a heroine who wasn’t bogged down by the rules other young ladies have to follow. For one, she isn’t English, and she has bigger worries than the typical debutante. She has a little brother she is trying to save. Everything else fades away when someone or something we love is in jeopardy, and our focus is on what really matters in life.

Generally, I think writing heroes is easier. I grew up with two brothers and a close male cousin. Men really aren’t that complicated, and that’s what I love about them. The heroines are the challenging ones, but I enjoy a good challenge.

What prompted you to write the Beau Monde Bachelor Series?

I wish I could say I began the series knowing exactly where I was going, but that would be stretching the truth. I began writing about four years ago just for fun. My hero from Miss Hillary Schools a Scoundrel appeared in my first awful attempt at a novel, and I fell in love with him. Lord Andrew was so funny and carefree. I knew he had an amusing story to tell. Jake showed up in the beginning of Miss Hillary, and he was the perfect older brother for my heroine, Lana. I adored him. Plus, he was so smitten with Amelia. I had to know why they weren’t together. Then when Daniel made a grand appearance in Jake’s story, it was clear he needed to be brought to heel. What better way than to throw him together with a lady strong enough to stand toe to toe with him on a ship with no escape?

Can you tell us about Lady Vivian Defies a Duke?

This book picks up with Lord Andrew’s family, and it’s about his oldest brother, Luke. Here is a basic overview of the story:

Luke Forest, the Duke of Foxhaven, inherited more than a title with his father’s untimely death; he has a fiancée he never knew existed. Luke isn’t any more suited to be a husband than he is to fill his father’s Hessians, so he pays a call to his betrothed, hoping he can convince her to break their agreement. When Lady Vivian refuses, he proposes to find her a replacement husband at his mother’s house party and she agrees. Little does he realize Lady Vivian intends to win his heart long before they reach their destination.

What can readers expect next?

Lady Vivian Defies a Duke is the final book in the Beau Monde Bachelor series, but there’s a good chance some of the characters will make appearances in future books. I’ve proposed two new story ideas to my publisher, and I expect I’ll have more details to share soon.

Samantha Grace made her debut earlier this year with Miss Hillary Schools a Scoundrel. Her newest regency romance, Miss Lavigne’s Little White Lie, received a starred review from Publisher’s Weekly, and she did a happy dance in her kitchen. Samantha lives with her husband, their two tenacious kids, and an endless parade of characters that inhabit her imagination. You can connect with Samantha at:

About the book:

Captain Daniel Hillary's ship is the only one sailing from New Orleans to LadyVivianDefiesSide England, and Lisette Lavigne is bound and determined to be on it! Desperate to save her brother from being thrown into an asylum and to escape her devious fiancé, Lisette offers to pay Daniel any price for safe passage — even if it means warming his bed.

Daniel never allows women on his ship, but Lisette's exotic beauty and spirited nature convinces him that rules are made to be broken. He had no idea that this decision would lead to a hasty marriage, an enraged pursuit by the jilted fiancé, or a dangerous blackmail scheme that could cost him everyone he loves...

I see that my post came through as "Anonymous". I don't understand why, as I put my name to it.

I have to say I'm most impressed that your hero is a ship captain and not a duke or a viscount. That's refreshing. And having part of it take place in New Orleans in the beginning is truly original. I want to read it. Please enter me in the giveaway. Thanks.

Hi Angela and Samantha!

Angela -

Thanks for having Samantha over today! I loved finding out how she decided which character to be in her consecutive books!

Samantha -

Thank you, thank you, thank you for having the first three books in the Beau Monde Bachelor Series come out in the same year!

Back in February when I read Lana and Andrew story, Miss Hillary Schools A Soundrel I was definately "hooked" and thankful when I could pre-order Lady Amelia's Mess and a Half so that it magically appeared on my Kindle when it was released in June! Reading Amelia and Jake's story was a true joy to read.

Unfortunately I forgot the release date and forgot to pre-order Lady Vivian Defies A Duke and I've been wanted to read Daniel's story since he first appeared in Lady Amelia's Mess and a Half and gave his brother Jake a hard time. I knew immediately that he just needed a strong woman to give him his "come-uppance" and Lisette sounds just like the perfect woman to put him firmly in his place!

I'm thrilled that you have the next book in the series coming out next Spring and better yet I found out that last year you had a story called Twice Upon a Time included in an anthology (A Summons From The Duke) which I'm going to get to read before Christmas!

Thanks so much not only for a chance to win a copy of Lady Vivian's Defies a Duke but for the hours of fun reading you've already shared with all of your readers!

Linda,
I love stories that take place on board, too. I'm really happy my publisher was open to a different setting for a Regency. :)

Thank you, Ann (I think it is)! :)
I love to try a few non-traditional things here and there, and I've been fortunate to have an editor who has been open to letting me.

Jeanne,

Thank you! This is one of the sweetest comments I think I've received. Writing stories brings me a lot of happiness, and it's very satisfying to know there are readers who get joy from my writing. :)

The Christmas anthology was a very fun project I did with my writing partners. The collaboration was wonderful. I hope you enjoy Twice Upon a Time if you get a chance to read it.

I do think whne our love one is in jeopardy, everything fades away and you focus on that person. It's a situation that can make a hero and heroine stand out in romances :)

Na,
I agree. I love to see a strong goal in a novel, and it's hard to come up with anything more important than protecting the people we love. :)
