Anna Emerson is a thirty-year-old English teacher desperately in need of adventure. Worn down by the cold Chicago winters and a relationship that’s going nowhere, she jumps at the chance to spend the summer on a tropical island tutoring sixteen-year-old T.J.

T.J. Callahan has no desire to go anywhere. His cancer is in remission and he wants to get back to his normal like. But his parents are insisting he spends the summer in the Maldives catching up on all the school he missed last year.

Anna and T.J. board a private place headed to the Callahans’ summer home. And she they fly over the Maldives’ twelve hundred islands, the unthinkable happens. Their plane crashes in shark-infested waters. They make it to shore but soon discover that they’re stranded on an uninhibited island.

At first, their only thought is survival. But as the days turn to weeks, and then months, Anna begins to wonder if the biggest challenge of all might be living with a boy who is gradually becoming a man.

My Thoughts:

I fell in love with this book from the very first page!

A tutoring job in the Maldives would be most peoples dream job, but for Anna Emerson it also gives her a chance to escape her stale eight-year relationship with her boyfriend, John. Sixteen-year-old, T.J. can think of a million other places he would rather be than spending his summer with his parents whilst catching up on the schoolwork he has misses.

When their pilot, Mick, suffers a heart attack and their plane crashes into the Indian Ocean Anna and T.J. are nowhere near prepared to live on a deserted island. However, when no rescuers arrive after a month of being stranded, the two realize that their survival depends each other.

I could not get enough of this book! When I received the press release for the book, I noticed that it was being compared to Lost & The Blue Lagoon. Having loved both, I jumped at the chance to review this book and I must say that I was not disappointed.

The characters were easy to enjoy and I loved that she did not make T.J. a brooding type because that would have ruined the novel. Anna was a brilliant read as well and I loved how readers were able to see both characters perspectives.

Once I finished the novel, I could not stop telling people about how grand it was it. In fact if you see some lady in your local bookstore praising On The Island, it is probably me as I have been singing its praises each time I go into one!

This is definitely one for the beach!

I have heard that On The Island is going to be made into a movie and I cannot wait to watch it.

I would love to read this! It sounds like quite an adventure tale but also one that is emotional. I also heard the book was being optioned for film. That means I have to read it before seeing it :) Thanks for the chance to read it.
