Introducing Sharon Lathan's Mr Darcy

Sharon's Guest Blog Post!

Since we are honoring that great literary man, Mr. Darcy, allow me to introduce MY version of the man and share a sampling of the traits that make him fabulous.

Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy: 29 years old. Born November 10, 1787 to James and Lady Anne Darcy. Master of Pemberley in Derbyshire and Darcy House in London. Graduate of Cambridge University. Married Elizabeth Bennet on November 28, 1816.

Those are his vital statistics for my story. Now for the specifics found within the pages - My Darcy prefers to be addressed as William by those closest to him, and he adores endearments. He is a reserved, shy man who has few intimate friends but is fiercely loyal to those he loves. He is uncomfortable around strangers but open and quietly humorous with friends. Very loving and affectionate, incredibly passionate (in every way), sentimental, generous, respectful, and honorable; he is the epitome of a gentleman.

Extremely intelligent, he is a Master who actively manages his estate and business. He is obsessed with modern inventions but also relishes exploring historical ruins. Somewhat visionary, he diversifies his wealth in ventures beyond his land. Yet his one true passion is for horses, Pemberley a leader in breeding racing and military Thoroughbreds with Darcy often jumping into the corrals to lend a hand.

He is a skilled billiard player, excellent fencer, keen marksman, and expert rider. But he is horrible at darts, has atrocious luck in cards and dice, and cannot sing! He enjoys the typical manly pursuits of the day but equally relishes reading all types of books, relaxing with his family, and even playing his violin.

And I suppose it goes without saying that he is meltingly gorgeous, a fabulous lover, and crazy in love with his wife!

That is a small glimpse of the complex, well-rounded character that I have written. More information can be found on my website: http://www.darcysaga.net/

No matter how alpha, heartbroken, bad-boy rough around the edges, I want to see some sort of compassion to know my lead hero is still human.

Sex appeal is a trait I like to see. Not necessarily in looks, but in personality.

Personally, I like my hero to have a great personality with sense of humor. My hero must be someone that I can hold a conversation with.

I love to see the sex appeal and I do not mean he has to be gorgeous (it sure doesn't hurt). Just in the way he protrays himself. I love to see that come out of a character, even when not trying for it.

Patti (@TheLoveJunkee) said...

Of course sex appeal is nice, but I also like heros who try to do the right thing even if it pains them to do so. And humility. There's nothing worse than a hero who's in love with himself!

I like my heroes to be flawed. Of course they should be tall, dark, handsome, suave, but also make some mistakes to show that they're human.

I've been a bit leary about Pride and Prejudice "sequels" but these sound like they might be a "cut above". Please enter me in the giveaway. A particular trait in a hero ... Integrity, that over-riding trait of my favorite hero, William Marshal.

Most of all, I love to see loyalty and humor. I need to feel like I could trust the hero with anything...and I love to laugh.

Sorry I am getting here later than usual today! A very busy morning for me. Thanks to everyone for stopping by and leaving a comment. It is great to read the differing ideals we have on what constitutes a "hero." Keep it up! And good luck to all of you entering the contest.

There are so many traits that are important in these men we call our heroes - loyalty, kindness, compassion. I would like to add to that respect. I think it is important for him to always show respect for the heroine, even when he is angry at her; that makes the reveal of his feelings for her more true and real. If he loses respect for her, how can we respect him for going against his moral code to be with her? I don't want to see him compromising all of his principles to be with her; she has to be the sort to fit into them.

I love seeing those brooding types that think no one can get to their angsty core until someone (Elizabeth Bennet anyone?) comes along who makes their little hearts go pitter patter. It doesn't hurt if the the heroes are good-looking too ;)

I think doing the right thing is a huge trait. I mean, Darcy would do the right thing no matter what the consequences. Oh, and loyalty. Thanks for the giveaway!

What a fantastic author! Ok ok, so I'm her sister. Sharon and I been avid readers since childhood, I should have seen this coming wouldn't you think? I have read many authors though, and Sharon is truly an excellant writer with an amazing passion for her subject matter. That being said, I can tell you that as a biased sister, she has a wonderful personalty and a heart the size of Montana. She also has a wonderful family whom I adore. I'm just thrilled that someone I care so much about has found her dream, we should all be so lucky! Keep it up sis. Your number one fan.

Sharon Lathan said...

Gee, thanks sis! I'll send the check out ASAP ;) LOL!

It is terrific to have family support, and I have that in spades. My sis turned me on the great heroes such as King Arthur and Aragorn. Together we have read them all.

I love reading everyone's opinions. Yet, even though we pinpoint certain traits, there are many similarities.

Respect is a biggy, and one that Mr. Darcy models completely. Oh, I could go on and on! I really had to limit my blog or it would have taken the whole page! Keep the discussion going, ladies!

I love your bio of Mr. Darcy Sharon! I love reading about heroes that are kind kind, loyal, and understanding but also human (I'm not really fond of heroes that are too perfect). I like them tall, manly and handsome too of course (it is a fantasy hero after all). Please enter me in your contest. My email is countesschelle@aol.com.

I love compassion and consideration in a man. Mr. Darcy was appealing, but he was a little on the dry or bland side. I've gotta have a man with humor and a little fire!

Physical traits would be tall, with some substance. He has to able to defend my honor you know, so I guess somewhat athletic.
Intangeable (sp) traits would be intelligence, a good disposition, an optomist, friendly, and not totally judgemental. Or having good judgement.
I guess I should good looking too, but I have been good looking guys who were complete idiots, and looks aren't everything, not always anayway. Great personalities can make a huge difference.
Ok I've rambled enough. Thanks for the contest :)

Wow Sharon...I love your Mr. Darcy. I seriously do. I suppose it helps that I already loved Mr. Darcy from P&P. I have to tell you, I have read Alaine's reviews and have placed both books on my list to read in September. However, after reading this post...I so am looking forwarding to reading the books and your Mr. Darcy.

Particular trait?
Hmmm...my all time favorite "hero" is Jamie Fraser. What trait in him calls to me? Loyalty, honor, and he deeply loves his wife. There other traits but I will stop with those three that popped into my head immediately.

ibeeeg(at)gmail(dot)com

Alaine said...

Thanks Ibeeeg, can't wait to hear what you think of the books. Sharon's Mr Darcy is very similar to Jamie Fraser, also my favourite type of hero. You must be excited about the release of Echo in the Bone as well?

ibeeeg said...

Hi Alaine - You are so right...I am very excited about the release of Echo in the Bone. During D.Gabaldon's book tour, she is stopping at a location 40mins from me. I just found this out today. I am so psyched! I am so going! I am very excited. I love it when I can meet authors from books that I love to read. That is another great thing about book blogs, we get to "meet" the authors of the books we love to read. So this week with "meeting" Sharon Lathan has been great.

Alaine said...

Hi Ibeeeg, Diana Gabaldon is coming to Brisbane Australia as well. I agree, that's what I love about blogging as well. Sharon is one of those authors that is so friendly and such a great blogger. Makes communicating with her easy! Although I've told her a few times I think she should do a publicity tour to Australia! We'd love it!

Alaine said...

Oops I meant Diane, not Diana!

I would love to win both of the Darcy Saga books.
I think what appeals most about Mr. Darcy is his restrained manner. He is always in complete control, never showing the full extent of his reaction. Woe be to those who cross him, for he will take swift and sure action.

I have read and reread reviews and I would love to give these two books a go! Thank you for giving me the opportunity! I like honor, humor, integrity, kindness, and of course loyalty.
