There is a powerful magic in the mist-shrouded hills of Scotland that can captivate the imagination of just about anybody. And you will never even know you are vulnerable to this witchcraft until it is too late. One day the magic finds you; it unfurls itself from the pages of a clever little book and before you've even realised it has settled upon your heart, your love affair with Scotland has begun. You don't need to have Scottish heritage or even have ever stepped one foot upon its soil to be bewitched by the tales of passion, bravery and the ultimate quest for 'FREEEEEEEEEEDOMMMMMMMMM!'
Those already obsessed with Scotland the Brave can join me this week at Royal Reviews as I uncover the fiction and facts surrounding one of the bloodiest periods 0f Scotland's history - The Wars of Independence (1296 - 1357). We're talking William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Edward the Longshanks! This won't be a tedious history lesson and there'll be no pop quiz at the end but I do promise to share with you some fascinating, lesser-known facts about these events and point you in the direction of some really fabulous fiction should you want to know more. I also welcome you to share (through comments) any great books or information you may have come across.

Oh, I can't wait!
Cool!
Oohh, can't wait to see what you have in store!
This looks like fun. I haven't seen Braveheart yet, though I do have a copy.
There are a couple of older novels I know of set in that period. Have you read The Temple And The Stone and The Temple And The Crown, both by Katherine Kurtz and Deborah Turner Harris?
Cool! I like these weekly themes. Sounds fun. I'll be sticking around! =)
Ooh yeah, I'm in the mood. William Wallace & the Freedom Speech gives me goosebumps every time I watch it!
Believe it or not, I haven't seen Braveheart yet - I'm saving it for some snowbound weekend when I'm all alone! And wishing and hoping for such a weekend to come along!
O.K. So, it's not going to happen in June.
Looking forward to this!
How exciting. That was one of my favorite scenes in the movie!
Now I'm really exited!
The Freedom speech from Braveheart brings tears to my eyes, I love that movie!
