This is book two in The Luxe series. If you haven't read this book then I highly recommend, not only this book but the whole series. The series is set in 1899 and 1900 and is about four young women. It tells the story of their lives, loves and promiscuity. It is beautifully written and transports the reader back to the time of beautiful dresses and woman who had to marry to benefit their families. I have to mention that I was really impressed by the historical research that went into the series, the author went to great lengths to include plenty of details which gave the books the feeling of authenticity. Now if you haven't read the the first book, I can't say anymore without giving away major plot points, STOP and go read my review of The Luxe, the first in a four book series!

For those that have read the first book, I loved the way Elizabeth rode off into the sunset with Will. The fact that Diana and Penelope knew that Elizabeth wasn't dead turned out to have a devastating effect on her life in this book. My dislike for Penelope grew intensely throughout this book, along with my sympathy and understanding for Diana.

The one thing that stood out during these books is that these young girls where at the mercy of their families. They had no opportunity to make any decisions about their education, their relationships, the social activities they attended, not even their friends. I think that's what kept the pages turning so quickly for me, I keep wanting and hoping that three of them will get their happy ever after and one of them will go straight to hell!

I enjoyed this book so much that I went straight onto the third book Envy and will post the review for that soon.

Aliane this looks so good! I will have to get it after I finish Luxe, I know my 16 year old is going to have some good summer reads. Thanks for the review, I had no idea about this series until I read it on your blog.

You said...{{I keep wanting and hoping that three of them will get their happy ever after and one of them will go straight to hell!}}

And I say...yes to that! I so was thinking the same while reading this book.

I need to read Envy.

Susie - The Luxe was the first in the series and as such I always find the first in the series a little slower. I loved this series.

Ibeeeg - you really need to hurry and read Envy, it's hopefully the beginning of the end for 'that' character. But you never know how things will turn out so I'm still hoping she gets it.
